In New York State, there is only one place to officially search to see if you may have money waiting to be claimed. It's the Office of Unclaimed Funds with the New York State Comptroller. If you've been a resident of New York at some point in your life, you may have lost money waiting for you, right now. To check, just visit this site and search for your name. If your name appears, click on the result, and follow the steps to verify your identity and submit your claim for those funds!
If you want to brighten a friend or family member's day, search for their names, as well - and let them know if funds are waiting for them, too! This is the only official way to claim money in New York State, and it's totally free. A Social Security Number may be required for you to verify your identity (if so, rest assured the Office of the New York State Comptroller's site is secure), in order to receive the funds, but not to conduct a free search.
